Loft District Spotlight: Carrigan's Public House

Carrigan’s Public House is a leader of the Loft District’s craft cocktail movement, but it does far more than getting neighborhood folk deliciously relaxed. We think it’s a leader of the Loft District community, in more ways than one.

There are certain features that are common in the Loft District grub/pub scene. We’ve talked about cocktails already, and many of these spaces have — wisely, we think — incorporated additional rooms that can serve private parties without shutting down the main spaces.

Then, of course, there’s the gastropub ethos, which we think is a hallmark of the loft district food scene. There are lots of places that do it well — and you’ll never hear a bad word from our lips about Paramount or John’s — but we think Carrigan’s take has hit on something special.

The traditional British pub is as much community gathering space as it is watering hole. We like that Carrigan’s has taken the gastropub attitude back to its pub origins and chosen to host interesting things, both local and visiting. Pop up partnerships with We Have Donuts and Small Room Collective extend the artist-in-residence vibe of the district’s monthly Art Crawl. Plus, Carrigan’s also hosts the monthly Sidewalk Screen Talk series, extending the Theatre District’s reach toward its neighbors downtown and keeping the Sidewalk spirit fully present all year long.

But besides being an architect of community gathering, we think of Carrigan’s as the ultimate Loft District space. The community’s design focal point, if you will. It’s all original textures and open plan. And did we mention the roof deck? So if you’ve been wondering what this loft district living is all about, Carrigan’s is the perfect place to start.
