The Forest Park neighborhood is a historic neighborhood that begins at the far side of the Highland Park Golf Course with beautiful homes that line the cliff and wind around Clairmont Avenue all the way to Crestwood. The beginning of Clairmont Avenue gives a Main Street feel, with local shops and restaurants lining both sides of the street.
Avondale Park marks the turn from Forest Park into the Avondale neighborhood. The 100+ year old park was the location of the first zoo in Birmingham and one fiesty resident - a former circus elephant named Miss Fancy - who is said to have had a vivacious personality and a taste for the occasional sip of liquor. Known as the Queen of Avondale, her panache continues to embody the spirit of this neighborhood to this day. The Park was completely renovated in 2011 and the neighborhood was quick to follow with the introduction of Avondale Brewery that same year. Today, Avondale is a vibrant part of the city full of live music, diverse restaurant offerings and local businesses.
